Karma is a powerful thing. That's pretty much what Second Chances by THE RESISTANCE is about. A teenage girl who has bullied people all of her life gets into an accident and dies. She lays on the hospital bead, and then raises out of her body. She looks upon her dead body and the doctors who are working on her. She hears them pronounce her dead. She vows that she will change her rotten ways if she gets another chance at life. She begs for a second chance. Throughout the song, she says to herself that "second chances don't come every day." She's worried that it's too late for one. She fears that her second chanced "passed away" like she has. She comes back to life, though, and keeps her promise in becoming a better person.

Saint Monday

"Second Chances is by far the most mature song that Saint Monday has
ever written. It was originally based off of a guitar riff created by
Kyle Richardson. Bass Guitar and Drums were soon added to create a
strong groove, something that Saint Monday has always been known for
doing. The lyrics encompass the idea of moving forward in life because
you never know if there will be some sort of 'second chance'
available. What makes this song unique from others is that there is
not only a guitar outro, but a strong bass solo in the middle of the
song. With the powerful drums, the defining bass, the creative guitar,
the spoken message by Ryan Howard, and the catchy chorus sung by
Andrew Hunter, Second Chances by Saint Monday will certainly be a
hit!"


Last Man In Space

With Second Chances, Last Man In Space utilizes electronic sounds and influences
as well as acoustic instrumentation, taking the grand finishes of post rock and playing
them against the calm intensity of ambience. Using dark synths and industrial electronic
beats alongside acoustic drums and vocals, Second Chances creates a muddy, organic
mood whilst maintaining an isolated darkness.
Sampling is also heavily featured, both in the electronic drum samples, but also in
the ambience, taken from sources as diverse as hailstorms and bullet trains. Tonally the
song also incorporates elements usually kept apart: pitting strong fifths and fourths against
dissonance. Lyrically, the song describes frustration and disillusion following a radical
personal change. It grapples with the realities of a "second chance" contrasted with the
romanticized notion of one.
Second Chances brings together all these contrasts and conflicts, creating an
intense feeling of balance, constantly threatening to tip into disorder.
